Fryer famously appeared at the 1972 Annual Meeting disguised at "Dr. H. Anonymous." He spoke about being gay and a psychiatrist. This speech is considered an important event in the decision to remove homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
