Image Description:
Misc. glass plate lantern slides from the John Wanamaker collection from the early 20th century. Image 1 shows a man seated at a radio console in the Wanamaker's radio station, WOO, which broadcasted the Philadelphia store's famous pipe organ begining in 1922 until 1928. The slide's upper left corner has broken off. Image 2 shows the exterior of Wanamaker's Egyptian Hall auditorium, on the third floor of the store (Item # 1209). Image 3 shows a group of cadets gathered in formation in front of two Greek revival-style columns, probably on Market Street. Most likely taken on Memorial Day, cadets hung red, white, and blue wreaths for their fallen comrades. The slide is cracked and probably dates from the start of World War I. (Item #1278).
