Two letters of correspondence are addressed to Colonel C.L. Leiper, who served with Carpenter in the war. Additionally, there are two copies of payment vouchers from the period of September to November 1861, which include costs of living for Carpenter and a black servant, Thomas Draper, for 25 days.
Also includes a photocopy of Carpenter's entry into the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the Unites States.
