Letter from Irénée du Pont, president of DuPont Company, to Crawford Greenewalt, suggesting that he apply for a job at DuPont's Harrison plant in Philadelphia. Mary Hallock Greenewalt, Crawford's mother, had written to du Pont asking if he had any leads on positions for Crawford, a recent graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Greenewalt family was already intimately connected with the du Ponts; Mary's sister, Ethel, was married to William du Pont.

Crawford would later go on to become a leading chemical engineer at DuPont, pioneering their nylon and atomic energy programs, and eventaully serve as president of the company from 1948 to 1962.
