Butcher's certificate issued to Johann Philipp Odenwalt by master butcher Ludwig Herbst. Incipit: "Ich Ludwig Herbst Büger [Bürger] und Metzgermeister in der Churpfältzischen Haupt-und Residenzstadt Heydelberg Urkunde und Bekenne hiermit..." ("I, Ludwig Herbst, citizen and master butcher in the royal capital of Heidelberg, certify and acknowledge herewith..."). Note: Translation of butcher in German is Metzger.

Johann Philipp Odenwalt worked for Herbst for one year and for Frau Borman (Bormänin) for half a year. Issuance of certificate, as dated in the last two lines of the documents, is August 24, 1737.

The certificate has two embossed seals, one signed Ludwig Herbst 1736, the other signed Ina Barbara Bormännin [Ina Bormann].
