This online record contains eight images of four photographs of Thomas Nast (1840-1902), who was a German-born American caricaturist and editiorial cartoonist considered to be the "Father of the American Cartoon." Nast was associated with the magazine Harper's Weekly from 1859 to 1860 and from 1862 until 1886. He was famously opposed to "Boss Tweed" and Tammany Hall and he drew many cartoons deriding their organization. Nast also popularized the image of the modern American Santa Claus and the elephant as the symbol of the Republican party. These photographs of Nast are found in the photograph morgue of the Philadelphia Record (daily newspaper).Format:
