Account of the court-martial of Meriwether Lewis on November 6, 1795. Lewis was charged by his commanding officer for being drunk, insulting his superior officer, and disturbing the peace. He pleaded not guilty and was acquitted. This court-martial led to his transfer to another unit, where he met William Clark. In 1804, Lewis and Clark would undertake their famous expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase and the Pacific Northwest.
