Inscription:
D.J.Kennedy 1868 Ailsa Craig, St. Georges Channel, opposite where I was born in Wigtonshire, Scotland. About 16 miles distant from Corswall Light House, Port Mullin and Loch Ryan. David J. Kennedy. This rock is nearly 2 miles in circumference, 1000 feet high and is accessible only on the north side and is the property of "Kennedy," of Culzean Castle, The blue point of land on the extreme right is Ayrshire, the home of Burns. The blue on the extreme left is Cantire. Ailsa Craig is the home of the sea fowl from the Gannet and Solan goose measuring from 5 to 8 feet over their wings to the small sea gull & Mother Carys chicken, here they congregate in myriads, the noise they make when surprised by a gun shot is tremendous.
