Thomas Jefferson having had a few copies of these Notes printed to offer to some of his friends, and to some other stimable characters beyond that line, takes the liberty of presenting a copy to Mr. Hopkinson as a testimony of the esteem which he bears him unwilling to expose them to the public eye he asks the favor of Mr. Hopkinson to put them into the hands of no person on whose care and fidelity he cannot rely to guard against publication.
