The Cliffs, the country residence of the Say Family for nearly 40 years. Doctor Benjamin Say died in 1813, his widow occupied until her death, it was afterwards sold by Mrs. Kennedy & her sisters to the Philada. Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad Co. as a site to build their R.R. Bridge being a solid rock foundation, they quarried out the remainder of the rock for building purposes and nothing now remains to mark the spot of the Old Mansion. Adjoining the "Cliffs" on the north was the Floating Bridge Inn & Garden of George Gray, known by all as "Grays Ferry." This sketch made after one by Breton by D.J. Kennedy in 1836.
