The Musical Fund Society was established February 29th 1820. Among the original members were Hon. John K. Kane Benjamin Say Capt of the City Troop of Cavalry, Francis Gurney Smith, Franklin Peale (sp?), Francis M.Drexel, James Kevins, William Meredith and others. The lots and building on Locust St cost $20,468.56. Concerts were given here by Madam Malibran in 1837, also, in 1843 the Seguins, Ole Bull, Madam Anna Bishop (1848), Jenny Lind (1850), Adelina Patti (1854) William R. Dempstir (1865), Madame Gazzaniga (1857) and Sigmund Brignoli (1857). Jenny Linds first two concerts realized $19,000.00.
