Inscription:
Erected by Penn Society on the spot on which stood the Great Elm Tree when William Penn made his treaty with the Indians in 1682 at Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Base 4 feet square and 6/12 inches high, level, 1/1/2 in of grey marble, pedestal 8 inches high of white marble, shaft of white marble 4 feet high, 2 feet square at bottom and 18 inches at top, leveled top 6 inches, making the actual height 6 feet. Located 15 feet east of the curb on Beach Street and 180 feet north of the curb line of Hanover Street and 8 feet 4 inches north to the south wall of the large building now being erected and on the east by a high lumber pile within 3 feet of it, distance to the Delware River about 600 feet. It is being closely encroached on and in a few years may be obliterated entirely which is my reason for giving particulars. Ap 15/89. D.J.Kennedy. The inscriptions on each face of the shaft are above
