This drawing a a collection of figure sketches in pen with sepia wash. The figure is in two poses with variations repeated thoughout the drawing. One pose is seated facing the right and leaning forward and the other seated facing the left and leaning back with her arm over her eyes looking in the distance.    

This drawing is one of a small collection of drawings created by American-born artist Benjamin West (1738-1820) during his career in London (circa 1765-1819).
