Image: 1/16 plate; Head and shoulders of a woman with bare shoulders, black ribbon and brooch at throat on ruby glass, with applied color on her cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with geometric design, red velvet pinchpad, red velvet cushion, embossed with geometric design (1850-60s).
