Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Seated woman wearing a patterned dress, buttoned at the front, with wide sleeves edged in black, and white undersleeves, with a low close collar and a neck ribbon tied in a neat bow, with her hair parted in the center and tied back, and color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design front and back, with gilded edge pattern on both exterior and interior, with red velvet pinchpad, and red cushion embossed with a floral design (1850-60s).
