The Parish School, Kirkcolm, Wigtonshire, Scotland. Mr. James Wallace, Principal. Here I went to school until 10 years of age, distant from the Village of Stewarton one mile, Loch Ryan one mile and Corswall Light House three miles. I was then sent to Leswalt Academy, Mr. McGhee Principal, here we were drilled every Saturday afternoon to music, the band staying all night, (6 musicians), we the scholars numbered 182, and marched to church on Sabbath, the band playing lively tunes to and from, I was standard bearer, a sketch of the Academy will be seen in the Second Volume, with a description.
