Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate Cutting ambrotype; Young man with hair parted on one side, full beard and mustache, wearing a dark jacket with white pocket square, patterned vest, white shirt with collar points down, and dark neck tie, color applied to his cheeks. Preservers: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mats: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame double cased Cutting ambrotype variation of Eickmeyer's common book-style case (Berg No. 5-75) with gilded lined edge trim both front and back interior and exterior, with brown velvet pinchpad and plain brown (unembossed) velvet cushions (ca. 1855).
