Image: 1/9 plate; Bearded man with curly hair parted on the side, wearing a dark jacket and tie, arms crossed over his chest, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design, both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (1850s).
