Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Child, with hair parted on one side and covering both ears, wearing a cape or coat with very large sleeves, buttoned at the front, with a turned down collar, arm resting on a cloth covered posing table with possibly a dark hat resting alongside, color applied to the child's cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical with matte surface (mid 1840s - mid 1850s). Case: Leather-covered wood frame half case embossed with a flower vase design on the back, gilded edge trim on the interior, and a red velvet pinchpad (ca.1850).
