Image: 1/6 plate; Head and shoulders of a man with hair parted on one side and puffed at the forehead, wearing a dark jacket with a velvet collar rising high at the back of the neck, a dark vest buttoned to the throat with an upturned collar , a dark tie and a white upturned shirt collar, a small medallion of what appears to be a Star of David pinned to his vest, color applied to his cheeks and lips. Preserver: Stiff & heavy, more golden (1847-50). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather covered wood frame unmatched halves embossed with the common Thistle Motif [Plate 119 on page 115 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the front, with an exterior and interior gilded edge trim, and a geometric design on the back, with a red velvet pinchpad (ca. 1858).
