Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Man with hair pulled back from face, ears not covered, with a small beard, and mustache, wearing a dark jacket with a high back collar, a dark patterned vest, a white shirt with upturned collar, and a black tie, a watch chain attached to his vest, with color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with sandy finish (late 1840s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a floral design on the front and back, with an interior gilded edge trim, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a scrollwork design (ca. 1850).
