Image Description:
Image: 1/2 plate; Man seated in front of a cloth covered posing table adorned with a pile of books and a vase of flowers, his arm resting on the back of the posing chair, hair parted on one side, wearing light trousers, a light colored spotted vest, and a dark jacked with a high rise to the collar behind the neck, a white shirt, with white tie, and a slight turn down of the collar, spectacles on his face, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Octagonal with uncommon matte finish embossed overall in a simple geometric pattern ( early 1850s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a simple flower and vase design on the front only, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a plain (unembossed) rose red silk cushion (ca. 1841).
