Image: 1/6 plate; Young girl seated on a wooden posing chair, with hair parted in the center and falling in shoulder-length ringlets around her face, wearing a patterned dress with diagonal checks on the bodice and horizontal checks and a growth tuck on the skirt, with short ruffled sleeves gathered at the shoulders, and the jagged edges of a petticoat showing under the skirt hem, white stockings to mid-calf. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical, with sandy finish (mid 1840-50). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with interior gilded edge trim, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (ca. 1850).
