Image: 1/4 plate; Seated man and woman; man with hair parted on one side, wearing light trousers, dark jacket, and patterned vest, a white shirt with upturned collar, and a dark tie, a pocket watch chain clasped to the button hole of his vest; woman with hair parted in the center and extended in loops over the ears, wearing a dress with a habit-front bodice that shows the chemisette and a Jenny Lind collar with a brooch clasped at the throat, white undersleeves, with a dark wrap draped over her shoulders, and drop earrings, holding an unidentified object in her hand on her lap. Preserver: Simple rope pattern (after 1850). Mat: Double elliptical, with sandy finish (mid 1840-50). Case: Leather-covered wood frame embossed with a floral design both front and back, with a gilded interior edge trim, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with the photographer's studio name and address (1850s).
