Image Description:
Image: 1/2 plate; Head an shoulders of a woman with hair parted in the center and smoothed down over the head covering the ears, with ringlets falling to the shoulders, wearing a red dress buttoned up the front, with a whitework collar, and a brooch at the throat, color applied throughout.
Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s).
Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850).
Case: Leather covered wood frame with fitted brass hinges, a push-button clasp, and rounded corners, embossed with a simple lined edge trim both front and back, a red pincord pinchpad, and a plain (unembossed) eggplant purple cushion (ca. 1850).
Inscription:
(printed on paper): Elizabeth Dudd Kner Earl (Collins) (1824 - 1904) 4th daughter of Thomas Sykes Earl. Married Isaac / Collins III on Dec. 9, 1847.
