Inscription:
The George Inn, southwest corner of 2nd and Arch Streets in 1784. W. Birch. Nicholas Scull senior, father of Nicholas Scull II, the Surveyor General of Pennsylvania, kept the inn in the year 1700. The Philadelphia and New York stage wagon started from here by way of the Blazing Star in New Jersey to which boats came from White Hall slip, New York, time in summer 2 1/2 days, winter 3 days. Linen and leather curtains on stages.
