Biography:
Born in Philadelphia on February 11, 1824, Henry Louis Stephens was an illustrator and caricaturist best known for his book and magazine illustrations. Around 1859 Stephens began working as an artist for Frank Leslie and later worked Harper and Brothers. He also contributed cartoons and sketches to magazines such as Vanity Fair, Punchinello, and Mrs. Grundy, and produced numerous book illustrations. Stephens died in Bayonne, NJ, on December 13, 1882
