Image Description:
A photograph showing armed soldiers outside the Philadelphia Transportation Company bus depot at 10th and Luzerne.  In 1944, white transit workers went on strike to protest the decision by the PTC to allow black workers to hold non-menial positions. In order to break the strike, the functions of the PTC were temporarily handed over to the U.S. military.
