Image: 1/6 plate; Seated man holding a baby on his lap, the baby's hands held in his to keep them still, with a boy standing at his side with his hand tucked in the crook of the man's arm; man with hair puffed over the forehead and a beard under the jawline, dressed in dark trousers, jacket and vest, with a white shirt, collar points turned down over a slender bow tie; boy dressed in a long coat with a wide white collar turned down; baby dressed in a short dress with trowsers beneath with a long white coat above; color applied to all their mouths and cheeks. Preserver: Simple rope pattern (after 1850). Mat: Scallop with pebble finish (1840s).
