Image: 1/6 plate; Seated boy with hair parted on the side and puffed over the forehead, wearing a dark shoulder-baring dress with white trim on the short sleeves, with white stockings and dark shoes, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a floral design on the front and simple lined design on the back, with an interior gilded edge trim, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a patriotic eagle design, with scrollwork, and the photographer's studio name and address (ca. 1850).
