Biography:

Was a relative by descent of Caesar Rodney, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and daughter of Rodney Fisher of Philadelphia, who was a cousin to the celebrated Miss Vining of Delaware. She was by the maternal side a Callender. Thackeray said of Mrs. Leland that she was the most beautiful American whom he had ever seen.
