Biography:

Son of General Thomas Cadwalader and prominent lawyer and judge who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.  After being admitted to the bar, Judge Cadwalader married Mary Binney in 1828 and they had two daughters before Mary's death in 1831.  Cadwalader soon remarried Henrietta Maria Bancker and they had seven children: Sarah, Frances, Thomas, Charles, Anne, John, and George.  Over the course of his career, Cadwalader served as a lawyer for the Bank of the United States, as well as a term in the U.S. House of Representatives (1854-1856) as a member of the Know-Nothing party.
