Biography:

Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright.  He wrote approximately 38 plays and over 150 poems and is considered one of the greatest writers in the English language.  Many political cartoons reference Shakespeare and quote his works.

Shakespeare was born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon.  The exact date of his birth is unknown, but records indicate that he was baptized on April 26, 1564. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and had three children, Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet.  Hamnet died at the age of eleven.  He died on April 23, 1616 and is buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon.
