Biography:
William Barnes, Jr. was a prominent New York politician and political boss.  He was born in Albany, New York on November 17, 1886.  He was a newspaper editor and the founder of the Albany Evening Journal.  Barnes served as the New York Republican State Chair from 1911 to 1914 and the US Surveyor of Customs from 1899 to 1911.  In 1914 he sued Theodore Roosevelt for libel and lost.  He died in New York on June 25, 1930.
