Biography:
A soldier and officer with the Pennsylvania Volunteers, 28th Regiment of Infantry, which saw action at Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Missionary Ridge, Ringgold, Pine Knob, Peach Tree Creek, and in the Atlantic, Savannah, and Carolinas campaigns.  He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company D, 28th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on July 6, 1861.  He was promoted to Sergeant on May 24, 1863, to 1st Sergeant on July 4, 1864, and was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant on October 1, 1864.  He had been wounded at the June 27, 1864 Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia, was brevetted Captain, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865, and was honorably mustered out on July 18, 1865.
