"Oliver Oldschool" was the pen name of Joseph Dennie, a famed writer of the Federalist era and founding editor of Port Folio. Under Dennie's leadership, Port Folio became one of the most important literary and political journals of the early national period, publishing material on a variety of subjects, from "brief reports of the most interesting debates in Congress" to "descriptions of local peculiarities" and "articles of levity, with, and humour."
