Fragment of a journal kept by Colonel James Burd (1726-1793) while commanding troops at Loyal Hannon during the French and Indian War. Loyal Hannon (present-day Ligonier, Pennsylvania) was the site of the Battle of Fort Ligonier, which commenced on October 12, 1758. Under the leadership of Provincial Colonel James Burd, the provincial forces repulsed the French and Indian attack on the fort, which was under construction at the time.

This digital record contains five images that depict the entire fragment. No additional pages from this journal are held at HSP. This journal fragment has been bound together with the "Continuation of the Colonel Burd's Journal while building fort Augusta Oct. 14 - Nov. 21, 1757" which takes up the first half of the volume. An image of the cover of this volume has also been included in this record.
