(1) is letter from Elizabeth Willing Powel to the Reverend Jacob Duché believed to be written in 1776 at the beginning of the Revolutionary War; (2) is letter from Elizabeth Willing Powel to her sister Anne Willing Francis dated April 2, 1778.
Inscription:
To the Rev. Mr. Duché probably at the opening of the war of 76 Mrs Hare went to England 1783 [illegible] Mr Duché a letter of Aunt Powels to her sister Hare in England Oct. 1783 (on verso of first letter)

The child born was Elizabeth Powel Francis, afterwards mother of J F Fisher Townside Estate was I believe sacked by the British. My aunt willed it to Dr. Chas Willing it was in Moyamensing on So Side of Southwark Phila (on recto, upper left-hand corner of second letter)
