Image Description:
Two maps and descrpiton of the course of the Shawanoe River (also known as the Shawnee River, and now known as the Cumberland River) which flows through southern Kentucky and northern Tennessee by Thomas Hutchins. The first map is a close-up of the Shawanoe, represented on the second in relation to the Mississippi, Ohio, and Cherokee (now known as the Tennessee) Rivers, as well as the villages of St. Louis and Cahokia, among others along the Mississippi. The remainder of the folder is Hutchins' notes about the course of the river as he travelled on it from the mouth to the head, and then back. The first page of notes is dated "16th day of August, 1769," although the rest of the folder is undated.
