Matthews Recorder of Deeds."  Grover Cleveland and Matthews try to a pass, but a group of US Senators block their path to the Senate chambers.  The Senators hold a banner that reads "no salvation for the negro outside of the G.O.P."  Fredric Douglass stands behind Cleveland and Matthews and appears to be laughing.
