This book of nursery rhymes and short stories was wirtten by Ann Preston under the pseudonym, "Cousin Ann." Preston [1813-1872] was a doctor, abolitionist, women's rights and temperance advocate, schoolteacher, and first women dean of the the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania.
