Image Description:
This undated drawing was executed in pen with ink wash adding value. The image depicts a man laying  against a wall with a crutch under his arm and his face hidden. A male and a female figure stand over him in the center of the composition while two children stand to their right. West uses the placement of the figures to create an arch shape that moves viewers through the drawing.
This drawing is one of a small collection of drawings created by American-born artist Benjamin West (1738-1820) during his career in London (circa 1765-circa 1819).
