This folder contains former volume 1, pages 137 to 144 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt's The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West. It includes letters to and from West, some personal and some relating to the Royal Academy of Arts, and an inventory of West's art. Most documents are dated to the 1810s.

John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West’s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West’s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West’s death in 1820.
