This folder contains former volume 3, pages 76 to 132 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt's The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West. It contains letters to and from West, letters concerning the Royal Academy of Arts of which West was the President, and the draft of a catalogue of West's artwork from 1828. Most dated materials are from the 1810s. Oversize pages are in box 3, folder 4.

John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West’s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West’s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West’s death in 1820.
