Permanent ID:

Image Description:
This online record contains on image of a portrait of the controversial Catholic priest William Hogan. Hogan was assigned to the parish of St. Mary's of Philadelphia around 1810. He was excommunicated by Bishop Henry Conwell in 1820. The date of this portrait is unknown, but it likely predates his excommunication. The script below the image is largely ilegible, however the date 1822 is visible, which is most likely a reference to the riots at St. Mary's which were a result of the congregational schism between Hogan and Bishop Henry Conwell.
