Image Description:
This online record contains four images of two photographs from the Philadelphia Record (daily newspaper) photograph morgue. These images appeared in the February 13, 1946 edition of the Philadelphia Record. This was one of many strikes held during the post-World War II strike wave of 1945-1946. The strike pictured here was for a simple wage increase for transit workers.
Inscription:
First image: "With signs proclaiming support of their husbands, these wives of striking PTC workers yesterday joined the picket lines at the 59th and Callowhill sts. car barn. Leading the pickets with a sign conceding that their husbands are "right for the first time" are Mrs. Bessie Dougherty, wife of James B. Dougherty, president of Local 234, TWU, and MRs. Catherine Wootten, whose husband, Mike Wootten, is vice president of the local."

Second image: "These veterans of World War II who are also striking employees of PTC paraded to the 10th and Luzerne sts. carbarn yesterday to Michael J. Quill, TWU international president."
