Image Description:
A manuscript vocabulary book authored by R.J. Dunghion. Little information is available on Dunghion, but his motivations for creating this little book were possibly evangelical. Both the Klickitat and Kalapuya are Native-American tribes located in the Pacific Northwest of the present-day United States.

The Klickitat resided in the region that is now Washington State, north of the Columbia River, at the headwaters of the Cowlitz, Lewis, White Salmon, and Klickitat rivers, in present-day Klickitat and Skamania Counties. Today, they are enrolled in the federally recognized Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.

The Kalapuya resided south of the Klickitat in the Willamette Valley of modern-day western Orgeon. Today, the Kalapuya are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon.

This digital record contains twelve images that depict the entire described item. HSP possess another vocabulary by R.J. Dunghion of the Santeau [sic], which is not currently digitized.
