Image Description:
Women on strike from the Apex Hosiery Company, the largest non-unioned hosiery factory in Philadelphia during the 1930s. William Meyers the company president was staunchly anti-union and he used questionable intimidation tactics to keep unionization at bay. However in 1937, Apex hosiery employees banded together with the unionized members of neighboring hosiery factories to overun the building. William Meyers was physically assaulted. Though he would allow unionization in his factory, he did proceed to sue the strikers in a case that ultimately was settled in the supreme court in favor of the strikers.
