Foreword / The Day Family, Book 1, is one of a series designed to meet the needs of adults who are beginning to learn the English language. It was developed for the National Citizenship Education Projects Administration in New York City. Impetus for publication on a Nation-wide basis was given by the National Citizenship Education Program, under the direction of William F. Russel, Dean of Teachers College, Columbia University. Publication of citizenship textbook material is authorized by the Nationality Act of 1940 as one means of promoting instruction and training in citizenship responsibilities of applicants for naturalization. / Ugo Carusi, Commisioner.
