Photograph depicts followers of Father Divine singing and waving handkerchiefs at Peace Restaurant.  Father Divine, also known as Reverend M. J. Divine, was a spiritual leader who founded the International Peace Mission movement.

(NY2) NEW YORK, July 17—“WE THANK YOU, FATHER”—Singing hymns and chanting their “We thank you, Father”, these “angels” and followers of Father Divine, Harlem negro religious leader, wave handkerchiefs as part of their ritual, at a meeting of out-of-town followers here last night.  In store for them is a pilgrimage planned three weeks hence to a new “Heaven” offered them in fashionable Newport, R.I., by Mrs. Angela Kaufman.
